Instructors from Victory Martial Arts came to Aloma on April 21st. They taught the children defensive moves and discussed the importance of discipline and respect.
On April 17th and 18th, Mrs. Styron once again wow-ed us with field day! This year, the theme was "Aloma's
40th Birthday" and the kids all had a blast!! On Thursday (the 17th), kindergarteners, first graders, and second
graders had their chance to celebrate, and on Friday (the 18th), it was the third, fourth, and fifth grader's turn!
Even the teachers got to have some fun in the bounce house!!
On April 11th, seven of our fifth graders competed in the school's oration contest. These students had
worked diligently on their speeches (which were about an American landmark of their choice) and all did a
wonderful job! Congratulations to our winners, Nailah B., Christian S., Cristina T., and Jake W., who competed at the next level
on April 28th.
On March 19th, the faculty and staff of Aloma relaxed a bit and went bowling!
Mrs. Prohaska organized a weeklong celebration of the number Pi during the week of March 14th. Aloma
celebrated Pi Day (3/14) by having students write poems and memorize
the digits of Pi. The students who
memorized the most digits won a party for their class.
Dr. Jones presented each third, fourth, and fifth grader with an FCAT T-shirt the day before testing began.
On February 21st, our first and second graders performed the "Feelin' Good" show for family, teachers, and
friends. The show taught everyone how to be healthy so that you can feel good!
On February 21st, a History Center volunteer came to Aloma to put on a show about living in early Florida. The
5th graders really enjoyed his performance and learned lots of great information!

On February 19th , to celebrate the fact that we are and will continue to be an “A” school, African drummers Ms. Margo and Mr. Larry came to visit our students. The name of their group is Ashanti-Sebei -pronounced (long "a") Auh-shantay-Suh-bay. They played many instruments such as the mother drum, djembe, talking drums, shekeres and African bells and had our students and teachers movin' to an African beat.
Aloma FCAT Parent Night was held on January 28th. Parents of our 3rd , 4th , and 5th graders had
the opportunity to learn more about what their students would be expected to know in preparation for
the FCAT test in February and March in the areas of writing, reading, math, and science. Teachers
from each grade level shared strategies that parents could use at home with their children.
On Saturday, January 26th, Aloma students participated in the Fast Start Track Meet at Showalter Field.
Children from all of the Winter Park Elementary Schools competed in a formal track & field meet. The
field events were shot put (3 rd – 5 th ) and long jump (1st – 5th); the track events were 100M, 200M,
400M, 800M, 4 x 100M relay and 4 x 400M relay. There was a Kindergarten Fun Run of 400 M as
the finale.
On December 17th, the families who attended 5 of the 6 Partners in Print sessions were rewarded with
certificates and libraries for the children! Eveyone enjoyed cake and had a great time!
On December 13th, the fourth and fifth grade students, under the direction of Mrs. Wallace (Aloma's fabulous
m
usic teacher), performed "December in our Town," a look at how countries around the world celebrate
holidays in the month of December. They performed during the day for all the students, then to a packed house
in the evening.
Our PTA sponsored the Tricky Dogs act to come to Aloma on December 7th. All the kids loved it!!
On November 30th, the school-wide spirit day was "Crazy Hair Day" and the kids REALLY got into it!!
On November 16th, parents, students, and teachers enjoyed a delicious feast in honor of Thanksgivng.
Thanks to all the parents who participated and to all the children who dressed up!!
On November 14th, eighteen speakers came and spoke to various classes for Teach-In, a county-wide
program designed to introduce students to various jobs in the community.
For five evenings, parents came and learned how to help their child at home when he or she is learning to
read. Thanks to Mrs. Dufour, Mrs. Qureshi, Ms. Thompson, Mrs. Zorn, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Truyol
for teaching!
On October 31st, our students were able to exchange their slightly-loved books for other books brought in by
other students! Thanks to Mrs. Morales for coordinating this fantastic event!!!
On October 30th, our kindergarteners visited the farm where they saw lots of different animals!
Dr. Jones carved a pumpkin with Ms. Johnson and her first grade class!
On September 7th, PTA held Grandparents' Day, when grandparents got to have lunch with their grandchildren.
Over seventy grandparents came and a great time was had by all!
On August 7th, our new kindergarteners and their families got to meet the kindergarten teachers and Dr. Jones
at Goldenrod Park. They enjoyed nice weather, snacks, and time to play. It was a great start to what will be a
great year!
